Rebecca Koon’s Biography

Judy and I go back to the early 80’s when I was working at Carowinds interacting with pneumatically controlled bears. She was producing theatre and gave this budding actress roles in Getting Out,The Dining Room, Buried Child and the lead in her own play, Country Songs. She introduced me to JTA Talent Agency where she was an agent and where I’ve been represented ever since.

The Storefront Theatre is a readers theater performance venue working together to change our community through the delight of humorous, dramatic, emotional and impactful stories written and performed by local actors and playwrights.

Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, I completed a BA and MA in Theatre from USC-Cola.; earned my Equity card in ’85 at the Olney Theatre in Maryland; toured 13 states doing Miss Clairee in Steel Magnolias, played Maria in Twelfth Night for Alabama Shakespeare; appeared in The Cherry Orchard and Anna Christie in New Harmony, Indiana – and performed a boat load of plays for The Children’s Theatre of Charlotte and the now defunct Charlotte Rep. Shirley Valentine remains one of my favorites.

Luckiest film opportunity: Eileen Slocum in NBC’s short-lived drama series, I’ll Fly Away. Most recently aired: The Confession and Shuffleton Barbershop on the Hallmark Channel. Yet to be released: Let’s Be Cops, and an independent film called Sabbatical shot in Madison, Wisconsin.
